This band is another of Damon Albarn's projects. I was never much of a Blur fan, but everything he's done in the past 5-6 years has been really good.  "History Song" is my favorite track and Frank Black also covers this song. Here are both versions.

John Frusciante - "A Corner" off D.C. EP

This song is off an EP released by John Frusciante back in 2004. He recorded this in D.C. with Fugazi's Ian MacKaye, and used one of Guy Picciotto's guitars. They only recorded 4 songs, but many are better than anything from the modern day Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Midlake were a bunch of Jazz musicians who learned how to play indie music.  From Denton, TX...check them out.

Tune Yards - Bizness

Tune Yards is a pretty unique band that played at Pitchfork Fest this year. I didn't get a chance to see them play, but XRT has been giving them alot of airtime lately. Part of me can't stand the song, but part of me thinks it's a great shot at creativity. Give it a listen and let me know what you think.

In honor of the Pitchfork Festival.....Guided by Voices.  I saw them last night at the Pitchfork fest....old band, but still very good live.  Neko Case joined them on stage.

Deerhunter - Nothing Ever Happened

Deerhunter is one of my favorite bands in the last 3 years. The band describes themselves as "ambient punk," and "Nothing Ever Happened" is a song that very much captures that idea. I'm very excited to see them this weekend at the Pitchfork Festival, but have to admit that their lead singer (Bradford Cox) might be one of the ugliest frontmen since Ric Ocasek. This song is off their 2008 release, Microcastle.

TV on the Radio - Second Song

I've decided to get away from theme's for a few weeks and put some focus on new bands/songs that I really like. Today's post is TV on the Radio.  They've been around for almost 10 years and I'm just now getting into them. Their latest album, Nine Types of Light is amazing. Maggie bought me the LP for our anniversary.

Guilty Pleasure Songs (Day 7) - Big Reel Fish "Sellout"

Sean gets the last pick for this weeks theme and chose Big Reel Fish's "Sellout".  As Sean described "A relic from middle school days that has never faded from my memory."  

Guilty Pleasure Songs (Day 6) - Back Street Boys "Hey Mr. DJ"

Day 6 of Guilty Pleasure songs.  The Sus picks one from back in the day....The Back Street Boys hit "Hey Mr. DJ."  Susie was kind enough to sing part of the song for us in South Carolina and she proved that this song is her guilty pleasure song.

Guilty Pleasure Songs (Day 5) - Cee Lo Green "F You"

I'm up for Day 5 of Guilty Pleasure songs. I've selected Cee Lo Green's "Forget You" or "F&$# You"...depending on which version you hear. I was never a Gnarls Barkley fan, but this tune tends to stick in my head each time I hear it.

Guilty Pleasure Songs (Day 4) - Poison's "Every Rose has it's Thorn"

Maggie's song for day 4....and a very, very guilty song it is.  Poison's "Every Rose has it's Thorn" also known as "Rose" by Brett Michaels will forever be tattooed on my wife's brain.  She sings it in the shower, at karaoke and even to Molly each night. I think everyone with a pulse has heard this song at one point in their lives.  As a matter of fact, "Rose" was one of my favorite songs when I was young, dumb and very into hair bands....thank God I grew up.

Guilty Pleasure Songs (Day 3) - Bryan Adams "Cuts like a Knife"

Betsy is up for Day 3 of Guilty Pleasure songs. "Cuts like a Knife" by Bryan Adams was one of those songs that Betsy always dreamed to see live...and she got her wish this year in Hyderabad, India. With lighter in hand, Betsy swayed with the crowd, enjoying many of the hits. When "Cuts like a Knife" played, she left her friends so she could enjoy her guilty pleasure by herself.

Guilty Pleasure Songs (Day 2) - America "Horse with No Name"

Terry's pick for Day 2 is America's "Horse with No Name." His first pick was "96 Tears" by Question Mark and the Mysterians (best band name ever) but the song is too good for a Guilty Pleasure post.

Happy 4th of July - Galaxy 500 "Fourth of July"

Happy 4th of July everyone! I'm doing a second post in honor of the holiday.  Dean Wareham's (Luna) first band, Galaxy 500.

Guilty Pleasure Songs - Gregory Abott.

We're in South Carolina this week with family and I've decided to have everyone pick a song for this week's theme....Guilty Pleasure songs.  Everyone has at least one tune that they love to hear, but only when no one else is around.

Up first is Lynette's pick "Shake You Down" by Gregory Abott (the next Marvin Gaye.....that never happened). It has everything from senseless catch phrases, spoken word, a nursery rhyme and I think an attempt at a rap. It's a great example of a guilty pleasure song....and everyone about 30 has heard this song.

Funny cover songs (Day 7) - Hillary Duff "My Generation"

Another example of why you should never have Disney, bubble gum chewing, performers sing rebel songs. It doesn't work for Britney and it surely doesn't work for the Duffster.

Funny cover songs (Day 6) - Britney Spears "I Love Rock n Roll"

Good ol Brit Brit doing a Joan Jett song. It's too bad no one has the heart to tell her that she can't sing. I want Britney to bring crazy back....like JT brought sexy back. That aggressive, weird, bald-headed Britney is what entertains me....the other stuff is just blah.

Funny cover songs (Day 5) - Kelly Osbourne "Papa don't Preach"

Kelly Osbourne's attempt at fame...but she can't sing, write, or dance. Luckily her Papa let her use his money to record a song....similar to that "Friday" girl....and same result....a piece of english shite.
